These are the collected news stories, from Eastern Washington University's The Easterner, dealing with and cataloging Eastern's past as a place of protest. Some are microcosmic in nature, dealing with the closure of dorms on campus or the firing of outspoken professors, and others are culturally centered, contending with U.S.'s military involvement in Vietnam and Cambodia, misogyny, and racism. In both cases, these stories illustrate the way in which spaces, created for education, also have the potential to be spaces for political/cultural unrest. Eastern Washington University, being small and having a minimal history of political protest, is an example of how this potential has been both utilized and wasted at varying points in Eastern's history.
